When I was a teenager, a devastating earthquake damaged much of downtown, including our family business, Bookshop Santa Cruz. The community rallied to save Bookshop and countless other local businesses. It taught me an extraordinary lesson about what’s possible when Santa Cruz comes together. Since then, I’ve worked tirelessly to give back to the community that stood by my family in our time of need.

In this tumultuous moment for our country and community, we all must find a way to contribute to restoring democracy and the effectiveness of government at every level. For me, that effort starts with the City of Santa Cruz. If we work together, we can beautify our public spaces, fill vacant storefronts, prepare for disasters, address homelessness, and support our youth and seniors.
